Warsaw has climbed to third place in the European Smart City Index 2026, published by the International Institute for Management Development (IMD). The Polish capital now trails only Copenhagen and Amsterdam in the ranking of 141 cities worldwide.
The index evaluates cities based on technology infrastructure, governance, mobility, healthcare, and quality of life indicators. Warsaw scored particularly high in digital government services, public Wi-Fi coverage, and e-mobility solutions.
City officials attribute the success to several key initiatives launched over the past three years, including the Warsaw Digital Platform, which provides residents with unified access to over 200 municipal services, and the citywide sensor network that monitors air quality, noise levels, and traffic patterns in real time.
“Warsaw is proving that Central European cities can lead in innovation,” said Dr. Anna Kowalska, head of the city’s Smart City department. “Our approach combines cutting-edge technology with genuine civic engagement.”
